Recently I headed over to Stumpy Gully Vineyard on Stumpy Gully Road to try lunch at the new Ricca restaurant Regardz.

They have built a very attractive new wine tasting area off to the left hand side of the main room – this frees up space for what is now the restaurant dining room.

They have a great range of wines – whites include a sparkling, Sauvignon Blanc, Marsanne, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Viognier.  Reds include Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.  Stumpy Gully is one of only three vineyards that I know of left on the Peninsula growing Cabernet.

All these wines, save for a couple of reserves, are in the $20 to $25 price range.  They are all well made – very much in my Sound classification and good value.

The atmosphere in the restaurant was very pleasant – it was busy and buzzy.  The food – we tried belly pork and spatchcock – great flavours and good combinations of textures and colours, but don’t plan on missing dinner.  Perhaps just a little economic on portion size.

So overall Stumpy Gully have come up with a cellar door experience that is to be recommended.  And now it’s very easy to get to thanks to the new PenLink road.
